Joanne herself is an immigrant, and her experiences growing up around many cultures before moving to America mean that she brings a unique perspective to each case. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Florida in 1992, then went on to gain a Master of Science in Criminal Justice in 1995.
